Dec. 16th, 2018 08:54 pmOH BOY I HAD A GOOD IDEA RECENTLY
so. maybe infinity war didn't happen or idk we're in marvel's good timeline, not whatever tf the mcu is currently making. and steve appears on a tv show for something, to talk about charity or whatever, you know, just steve rogers things. and ofc they have to do makeup beforehand, and one of the makeup artists says steve would look really cute with some pink lipgloss and mascara and somehow steve ends up wearing that on tv (probably bc he likes shiny things. i mean... he did grow up poor as fuck).
it ends up with him getting really into actually wearing makeup on a daily basis and that way he sorta gets into dresses as well and eventually he's... idk, maybe doing another tv interview and the interviewer asks him whether he identifies as male, and from that on it sorta devolves into steve being introduced to nonbinary-ness.
and steve is stunned! he didn't know that was a thing! that he could just... not be male! that there's More than just male and female!
by the time the interview is over, steve really loves the idea of not being a dude, and... that's what ends up happening. they use they/them pronouns, wear whatever clothing they prefer that day (bucky really loves some of the cute summer dresses steve has), learn how to do makeup, start advocating more and more for queer rights and things are even more okay than they used to be before!
(also, sam bakes them a "welcome to the 'not cis' club" cake, making half of the cake the nb pride flag and the other half the trans pride flag out of the sweetest fondant he can find. steve almost chokes at the sheer amount of sugar, but still kind of loves it)
